Campaign Introduction:
The Edible Prairie Project is a nonprofit organization working to get fresh food grown and produced in Northeast Wyoming into the hands of our local residents. Did you know that right here in Campbell County, WY more than 5,000 people – including 2,290 children – can’t afford nutritious food? Children should not have to worry about when and where their next meal will come from when school lets out for the summer, which is why we need your help creating a Summer Weekend Meals program for kids.

Campaign Story
Summer break should be a time of fun in the sun filled with family, friends, picnics, and laughter, but for many children summer fun can be replaced with worry, anxiety, and hunger. Summer school feeding sites help provide meals during weekdays, but finding food during the weekend can be a daunting task for many children. Our Summer Weekend Meal program will help bridge this meal gap and allow children to spend more time having fun during summer break and less time worrying over where their next meal will come from.
Each weekend, during the 12-week summer break, children will receive a kid-friendly, nutritious, and filling meal box containing at least $5 worth of meals, including:
- 2 breakfast items
- 2 lunch items
- 2 dinner items
- 2 healthy snacks
- 1 fruit or vegetable
We have set a goal of serving 100 children during our first summer and hope to double this number each year.
Just $60.00 will help provide weekend meals to one child during summer break!
But that’s not at all!
Each pickup site will include bins of local, farm-fresh produce that children and their families can select from to supplement their summer weekend meal box.
Throughout the summer, weekend meal boxes will also include useful personal care items and kitchen utensils, along with books and toys to help meet a variety of needs during the summer break.

Thank you and Campaign Extension!
Many, many thanks to everyone who has shared and contributed to our Summer Weekend Meals for Kids campaign! We are so close to meeting our fundraising goal that The Local Crowd has allowed us to extend our campaign through the weekend.
Yesterday, we helped an amazing group of Wyoming Food For Thought Project volunteers in Casper, WY pack over 700 weekend food bags for local school children in Natrona County. It was so inspiring for us to see all the volunteers in action and to share in their common goal of providing meals to kids every weekend of the year.

Summer Weekend Meals for Kids Launches this June!
Thank you for supporting our Summer Weekend Meals for Kids campaign!
We just wanted to share with you that we will be partnering with the Campbell County Boys and Girls Club to distribute our weekend food packages during the 2020 summer break. One hundred children will begin receiving their weekend food packages on June 4 and continue receiving meals each weekend during the 12-week summer break. We will also have volunteer opportunities for those interested in helping us sort and pack the weekend food bags, so be on the lookout for the signup link which will be sent with our March newsletter.
